Programa de Pós-Graduação em

Fisiopatologia Clínica e Experimental

The Program

The Graduate Program in Clinical and Experimental Pathophysiology (FISCLINEX) was designed and approved in 1997 from studies conducted with hypertensive patients under the coordination of Professors Emilio Francischetti, Virginia Genelhu, and Antonio Felipe Sanjuliani, a PhD student at the time.

This team initiated the research structure of the program, which until today serves as a guide for the training of highly qualified researchers for clinical and translational research in order to explain the basic mechanisms of various diseases, seeking more efficient strategies for quick, safe and reliable diagnosis and treatment.

The main subjects of study of the FISCLINEX Graduate Program were, until then, hypertension, obesity and diabetes. Topics that raise great interest for public health and also a huge capacity of assistance to the population of the Unified Health System.

In the program’s growth trajectory, research projects linked to other research groups of the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) were initiated. Currently, groups linked to the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM), the Institute of Biology (IBRAG), the Institute of Nutrition (INU) and the Institute of Physical Education and Sports participate in the FISCLINEX, which represents outstanding interdisciplinarity and consequent strengthening for medical research.

These nuclei represent the diversity of research topics in the areas of microcirculatory regulation, the study of diabetes mellitus, obesity and hypertension, oncology and cell therapy, neurochemical and neurobehavioral studies, the mechanisms of chronic pain and inflammation, and also clinical and experimental kidney disease, human genetics, physiology and pathophysiology related to physical and respiratory fitness.

Objectives of the FISCLINEX Graduate Program

Educate high quality researchers and training for universities, research institutes, public service and companies in general.

Educate professors for Universities.

Qualify students to work in a globalized world, so that they can interact with the international centers of excellence in their field.

Interact with Graduate Programs in Brazil and abroad.

Provide services to the community, such as medical, nutritional, physical activity counseling, with patients from the Unified Health System, students from public schools and underprivileged communities.

Work on improving Public Education in the State of Rio de Janeiro, through the Rio deJaneiro Carlos Chagas Filho Research Support Foundation (known as FAPERJ) Programs or other funding agencies.

Act in popularization and dissemination of Science and Technology.
